Personality.
Helena (DOB May 10th, 2085) has lived a difficult life, and so tends to have a rational, thick-skinned view of the world: she believes it won't be easy, that people are cruel, and that moral grayness exists in every corner of every city. Despite this, she has an unflinching kindness when it's needed, and is supportive and motherly to those who are struggling through that complex life she's so jaded by. She does believe in the concept that good things can and will happen, even if there's a lot of bad along the way. She just knows it is something that comes with caveats and is hard to keep steadily.
She has a sharp wit and a short fuse at times, and can be blunt and raunchy others, but overall she likes to keep a straight head on her shoulders. Helena has absolutely no shame in most things she does, and in fact proudly wears her work as a brothel worker on her metaphorical sleeve. She's also not afraid to stand up against others for the sake of someone weaker, and will put her life on the line to try and get young girls away from drugs, dangerous occupational hazards, and everything in-between. Her co-workers like to refer to her as someone who 'collects strays' for a reason.

Background
WARNING FOR MENTION OF UNDERAGE PROSTITUTION, SEXUAL ASSAULT. Born in Lima, Peru, Helena experienced life in difficult poverty alongside her mother and grandmother, who had worked as prostitutes to try and build a life for themselves. They had hoped to one day open a restaurant in North America — a dream cut short by an epidemic that killed them both when Helena was very young. As a teenager, Helena eventually fell into the world of sex work like her family before her, which exposed her to a life that she had since learned how to navigate more skillfully in her 20's. She had been determined to carry on that work and maintain her own independence, not wanting to be tied down as a wife in a complex and unfair world post-epidemic.
At the start of the story, Helena had met the primary characters on the border, forced to help Colonel Khan's mercenary group while on the run from Propater forcers who had initially kidnapped her and many other women for their own devices. She ends up escaping in one piece, though mourns the loss of a young girl named Kachua in the process. Helena reappears stumbling into a battered and beaten Elijah, who she helps take in and gets work as a server at the brothel she works at. Helena spends her time here helping vulnerable young women off the streets and gives them a safer space to work in, especially ones that are in need of rehabilitation from drug addicts usually forced by their pimps.
